SLB awarded the “Carbon Footprint Quantification Emblem”

SLB, the global technology company promoting energy innovation, was awarded the “Carbon Footprint Quantification Emblem” as part of the Ecuador Zero Carbon Programme (PECC) promoted by the Ministry of Environment, Water and Ecological Transition.

This programme was founded in 2021, the year in which SLB was invited to sign on as one of the promoters, committing to adhere to one of the three stages: 1) quantification, 2) reduction, and 3) neutralisation of greenhouse gas emissions.

In this first stage, SLB complied with the parameters established by the competent authority, going through a process of quantification of its greenhouse gas inventory and verified by an accredited Conformity Assessment Body (CAB).

In the next stage, SLB will validate the available technologies that contribute to the reduction of CO2 emissions, which already have national and international certifications.

Corporate Initiatives

In 2019, on a corporate level, SLB had already begun a process for the mediation of greenhouse gas emissions, adhering to the Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHG Protocol), the most widely used tool internationally for the calculation and communication of the emissions inventory.

From this global information, local information was extracted and, after applying the criteria of the Ministerial Agreement and the Ecuadorian Technical Standard, SLB applied for the Carbon Footprint Quantification Emblem, which has now become a reality.

Ruth Zambrano, General Manager of SLB for Ecuador, Colombia and Peru commented: “in October 2022 we had a change in our brand, we went from being Schlumberger to SLB. This change is tied to a corporate strategy where we have placed sustainability as a fundamental pillar of everything we do”. The best way in which we can contribute to the balance of the planet is to continue innovating, creating, using technology that allows decarbonization and moving to much cleaner energy systems for our countries, he said.

It is a set of public policy instruments that promote the recognition of companies that measure, reduce and offset their carbon footprint with internationally validated methods and that incentivizes offset actions to be oriented to the retribution that projects that conserve, restore and generate greenhouse gas emission reductions in Ecuador.

The objective of this program is to encourage companies to take action on climate change through a transparent and verifiable scheme, so that they can communicate their commitments and access other incentives.
