ZURICH INSURANCE AND UNIDOS POR LA EDUCACIÓN TRANSFORM SCHOOLS IN ESMERALDAS.
Zurich Ecuador, Z Zurich Foundation, and Unidos por la Educación Foundation worked with 6 educational institutions in the cantons of Esmeraldas and San Lorenzo to transform their infrastructure and included the ChanGo methodology as part of their education. The schools will benefit 1,283 students and 82 teachers who will have access to remodeled infrastructure with a holistic and modern education process.
The schools’ transformation began with a participatory analysis, which included parents, teachers, and students, for the structuring of the educational proposal. This provided guidelines for the intervention of the institutions, prioritizing the use of environmentally friendly materials that are economically available and promote the use of local construction systems.
The design of this pedagogical approach encourages student independence through spaces designed with scaled furniture to be accessible and adaptable to the needs of each stage in the development process. The environments have been designed to give them the freedom to choose their activities and work at their own self-pace.
The project has a positive impact on 6 schools: 12 de Octubre, Tululbí, José Jijón Saavedra, José Joaquín Montúfar, Segundo A. Mercado, and Baron de Carondelet. In addition, as a result of the work carried out, 10,990 people from Esmeraldas and San Lorenzo communities will benefit from the positive impact of the project.
